Android 2.1 officially announced for droid

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:58 am by cliffwynne

Engadget has an article on the 2.1 OTA announcement for the droid snippet:

We’ve just gotten the inside line on the next Droid update that’s making the rounds through Verizon’s testing department from one of our trusted sources, and overall, it looks like this should take users 95 percent of the way to curing pangs of Nexus One envy. Here’s what we’ve got:

Motorola Devour Announced

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:16 am by cliffwynne

Yesterday Verizon announced the Motorola Devour the next in line of android based phones by Motorola. Devour by Motorola displays a 3.1 inch capacitive touchscreen with a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. The smartphone supports Bluetooth profiles such as A2DP, HID, HSP, HFP, AVRCP and GAP. Devour comes with a 8gb sd card preinstalled, still no word on pricing from Verizon. This will be the first droid device on Verizon wireless to sport the MotoBlur delivery service.

Whats interesting is that this phone will be running Android 1.6 not 2.0 or 2.1. My thinking is that Motorola and Verizon wanted to create a mini droid with a slightly older OS. I’m sure there will be OTA updates available in the future to bring the Devour to 2.1+ land.

Wow!!

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:24 pm by cliffwynne

Well tomorrow I’ll be turning 37, happens once in a lifetime. Even more amazing that as a Black American male growing up in Chicago that I actually made it to 37 without going to jail, slinging drugs, joining a gang or any of the other challenges you face growing up in an urban area.

For that can thank my parents who were strict but kept me in line and my friends Jamal, Nate, Joff, Al, Chauncey and David, who kept me more grounded than anyone. Imagine I’ve known most of those guys for over 20 years and I consider them my brothers and would easily go to bat for any of them. I can also thank my wife and children for supporting us and helping me keep us all together even when I wasnt acting. I love you Tanya, Cammeron, Christina, Quinera and Aaron, no that wasnt in any certain order :) . Last but not least is my savior who even when I’m lost is there even if I don’t know it.

As I write this, my family and I are at a crossroads, the last year has been very hard on us. Moving 3 times and now possibly having to move again because of circumstances beyond our control. It’s literally tearing us apart on the inside but we are fighting to keep ourselves together. Not only is it hard on Tanya and I but I know it hits the kids even worst. Especially Cammeron who is going through a big transition from teenager to young adult and I can tell you thats not easy at all.

I’m sure we will get through this bump and be all the better for it but from the inside looking out all we see is a dark dark tunnel leading to just more letdowns.

I’m not writing this for anyone to feel sorry for us. I’m just putting words in a blog because I can’t scream. Enough feeling sorry for ourselves though we need to move on past this no matter how hard its going to be. Hey I’ve survived another year to see my children blossom before me that alone is worth the trials and tribulations of this mortal coil.

Lastly I want to welcome Samirah to our family and I say our family cause thats just what it is. Though your fiancee and I arent related by blood but we have a bond that transcends all.

Love to all both friends and enemies and God Bless.

Spring is here

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:20 am by cliffwynne

So nice to finally be able to go outside 50% of the time and not dread the thought of the weather waiting for you. I’ve always been a warm weather child, guess that is kinda messed up considering that for 90% of my life, I’ve lived in the midwest which has honestly only 3 seasons: Summer, Winter and Construction.

With spring comes spring cleaning and with the new house that means tons of leaves as the builders and previous owners decided it would rock to plant 21 trees and bushes around the house. I mean who cares its just going to create a TON of stuff to clean up come spring :( .

I jest though, I’m just happy to be to enjoy the good weather again and hopefully the end of the white stuff that makes driving so difficult in small midwest towns.

Start of a new beginning

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:08 am by cliffwynne

This was originally written on May 2nd, I just never got around to posting it so here it is:

Today, marks the last day that I will be at my current company. As many of you know I am moving on to another company. It was a hard decision to come to but my wife and I decided it was best for our family and thats what truly counts. I’ve made a lot of friends here and I hate having to leave but I have to do whats best for my family and right now moving to Atlanta is just not an option.

I’m both anxious and afraid about moving on from here, and like anything in life there will be challenges but we all have to adapt to change if we are going to make it through this crazy mixed up world.

To all my friends at McKesson, I wish you good luck and fortune on any of your future endeavors.

Whats been going on

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:17 am by cliffwynne

Well its been a long time since I’ve given a rant but I guess its about time for one now since I’m finally nearing my graduation and my family and I are preparing for a new chapter in our lives. So about 4 months ago I was starting my last semester of school and preparing to graduate and finally be down with school when the CIO for my company made a nice revelation to me and my fellow coworkers here in Dubuque. Here is a nice synopsis from our local paper at the time of the announcement:

McKesson Corp. will phase out 79 jobs – all in the Information Technology area – from its Dubuque operation.

Meanwhile, the health-care services company plans to sell the Dubuque Building, Eighth and Locust streets, and lease another facility in Dubuque by the spring of 2009.

Employees were informed of the developments at meetings this afternoon, company spokeswoman Leslie White told the Telegraph Herald.

The jobs being eliminated in Dubuque will phase out over next 9-18 months, said White, who did not disclose the average wage of those jobs. McKesson currently employs approximately 419 in its Dubuque operation.

Announcement of the new McKesson site will be made after lease arrangements are finalized, probably in the next several weeks, White said. “This will allow space for growth for our products and services,” which includes its RelayHealth and Physician Practice Solutions operations, she said.

Employees whose jobs are being eliminated will be invited to apply for positions throughout the corporation, which is offering outplacement services and severance packages to those who do not land positions elsewhere in the company.

McKesson officials also promised to work with Greater Dubuque Development Corp. and Iowa Workforce Development regarding retraining opportunities and other services.

Despite the job cutback and intent to sell its building, company officials insist their tenure in Dubuque is not winding to a close.

“McKesson will continue to be involved in the various things going on in Dubuque,” White said. “We have been a strong supporter of Dubuque,” she added, noting that the company has donated about $500,000 to various non-profits and civic organizations over the past five years in Dubuque.

McKesson is a Fortune 20 health-care services company in North America with more than 32,000 employees and revenues of more than $93 billion. It provides pharmaceutical and medical-surgical distribution services as well as automation solutions and information technology for hospitals, physician offices, payors and retail pharmacies.

Needless to say this rocked everyone’s world here. Now as the article stated they weren’t getting rid of jobs just relocating them to the Atlanta area. If any of you know my family and I are originally from Chicago, not the suburbs the actual damn City of Chicago, and now that we had gotten use to country living we weren’t too keen on returning to a big city especially with even worst traffic than Chicago.

So the search for a new job was on, thankfully I was able to find one and so now my family and I will be relocating again, hopefully for the final time back to Illinois but not to Chicago but we won’t be too far away.

Now don’t get me wrong I have nothing against McKesson per say, I understand their business reasons for transfering the datacenter to Atlanta since this location is truthfully uninhabitable and not worth the millions of dollars it would take to upgrade it to a true datacenter. I just think that no one sat down and thought about what this would do to the people that work and support the systems here. Most of the people in this datacenter are from the area and have never left the state of Iowa let alone the city of Dubuque. So Imagine what they are going through.

Since the announcement, 20 of the 79 jobs have already been vacated as people have found work inside and outside the company. With those departures come the loss of knowledge, so its like they are rebooting CIT in a way. How this will work out I have no idea, but I wish them all the luck in the world. As for me and my family we are bound back to our roots in a sense.

Just a little sidenote for anyone that might be reading this. If you have support staff that is supporting servers that arent in their datacenter does it make sense that they would have to relocate to a new datacenter that won’t even house the servers that the staff will be supporting?

Sorry for the long rant but it needed to be fleshed out…

No really you can stop now

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:12 am by cliffwynne

No really it can stop snowing now. No honestly we are a bit tired of shoveling and deicing every other day here in Winter wonderland USA. Feels like we live in Alaska and not Iowa anymore :) .

Funny gif I ran across today…for all the Chapelle show fans you will get the reference.
