Geek Rant

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:41 pm by cliffwynne

Get ready for my first geek rant of the year, most of you will have no idea wtf I’m talking about but for those of you that do sit back and enjoy:

While in training I meet one of the most obnoxious and immature “Unix” Admins that I have ever had the displeasure to meet, you know one of those admins whose only exposure to “Unix” has been with the schooling that he has had in Linux. Sure Linux is similair to Unix much in the same way that Mac OS X is similair to Unix. Its funny how people from smaller shops that haven’t had the pleasure to work in robust atmospheres answering to multitudes of clients can claim that Linux is the God of all O.S. All operating systems have their place in the World and face it Linux Nazis, Unix isn’t going to die off anytime soon because Linux is just not ready for primetime in a lot of environments.

I’ve experienced environments where linux works and environments where it just flat out fails, and so has alot of my colleagues. Difference is that most system administrators will admit the faults of their respective operating systems but then you run into dickheads like this guy, who can only reply with hey it works for me so therefore there must be something wrong with your shit.

Tuesday again…

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:35 pm by cliffwynne

So the New Year has started and I have returned to school Hooray. Taking Business Communications, Accounting II and Banking/Money, yes those courses are all as exciting as they sound.

I’ve also started doing more work for my new position as a Engineer/System/Database Admin, as with any new job its a bit difficult at first trying to figure everything out and what your suppose to be doing especially with school going on right now.

I was in Chicago last week for Oracle training, caught up with a couple of my friends including Dannie who was generous enough to pay our bar tab at Spectrums, a place I hadn’t been to in quite sometime. It was nice to be back home and have more choices in dining than what we have up here in Dubuque but thats the price of living in a small town.

I also learned that Hotel ceilings are very thin because sometimes you can hear your upstairs neighbors getting busy, believe me it can be very scary at times :) .

Congratulations also goes out to Dannie and his wife on the birth of their baby boy Dannie, Jr. at the end of last year.
